…..can’t wait to meet you, 2021!
10 days left and counting! We don’t usually start counting down the year THIS early, but…….well, nothing else has been normal, why start now?
“The best way out is always through.”
― Robert Frost
I figured I’d write this entry about the things I am happy about, the things I am grateful for, and the good things that happened in the past year. We have all heard far too much about the negative. It’s the last post of 2020. Let’s close out the year on a positive note.
What was good about 2020
I was able to get closer to my center this year, not by choice but by circumstance. Sometimes that ‘s what it takes. A little kick in the “A” to make decision making imperative. I’m not where I want to be, but I’m better than I used to be.
I found strength in myself. Strength I didn’t know I had. I look back on the year, and I am still here, treading water, and still breathing. What seemed insurmountable earlier is now in the rearview mirror, or close to it. I’m not to the point of being totally optimistic, but I’m better than I used to be.
Your hardest times often lead to the greatest moments of your life. Keep going. Tough situations build strong people in the end.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
I am practicing my creativity much more now. In fact, I would say 100% more. I am learning new things, new technologies, new ways of thinking and it is leading to some interesting places. My art isn’t quite where I want it yet, but it’s better than it used to be.
Are you seeing a trend? I am. It took a while to get there but hindsight is 20-20. Pun intended.
I can see the ebb and flow now. I can see the peaks and valleys of life and how I fell in and climbed out. I know the trend will continue and I feel more prepared to handle it. I have some evidence that I am able and have what it takes.
What will 2021 bring?
No one knows for sure. The only constant in life is change. I think we can expect more ebb and flow, more dip and rise, more up and down, but maybe not so drastic. My hope is that the sea becomes a little smoother, with smaller waves and not quite as much storm surge.
“It doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down. All that matters is you get up one more time than you were knocked down.”
― Roy T. Bennett
My hope for all of you is that the close of the year brings a peaceful close to a chapter. I hope it also brings a peaceful new beginning to a new chapter. We deserve one.
I am looking forward to forward progress on projects I have started. I am looking forward to continued connection with family and friends. I am looking forward to new ideas, new techniques, and new inspirations in my art. I am looking forward to 2021.
What are you looking forward to?
Take a moment now and find just a few things to be thankful for from 2020. We are all wishing for a new calendar, but you would be surprised what looking for, and finding, one bright moment can do for your outlook. The shift in focus can really help.
Now, think of one thing you are looking forward to in the coming year. Keep that bright moment in the front of your mind as we close out 2020. Use that as your north star to build an even better 2021. I broke into laughter as I wrote that, because…..well, truth be told, THAT bar isn’t set real high.
Leave a comment below and tell me what your bright moments are.
